Asheville Residential Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sanitizing on Move In Move OutsMoving in or out during the COVID-19 pandemic can be stressful, however, you don’t need to worry about catching the virus. In fact, preventing the spread of viral infections is something that can easily be done with the right sanitation methods and common-sense precautions. According to the CDC, COVID-19 occurs most commonly through close contact with other people via respiratory droplets and appears on surfaces for hours to days. Therefore, it’s in your best interest to clean and sanitize surfaces to prevent the spread of COVID-19. By cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces during and after a move, you can dramatically lower the risk of spreading a viral illness, such as the coronavirus. Here are five tips for cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing your things during a move.

5 Tips for Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sanitizing During Move In/Move Outs

  1. Have Cleaning Materials During the Move

During the coronavirus pandemic, it’s important to have the right cleaning products on-hand when moving into a new home. All you need to kill the virus and prevent spreading are the appropriate home cleaning products and materials. EPA-registered disinfectants like Lysol Disinfecting Wipes and Clorox Multi-Surface Cleaner are capable of killing the virus on surfaces. Other materials you may need include gloves, masks, hand sanitizer, hand soap, and paper towels.

  1. Disinfect High-Touch Surfaces

Once you have all the necessary cleaning products and materials, be sure to clean and sanitize all high-touch surfaces in the household first. After the move is finished, we recommend cleaning and disinfecting every surface before you deep clean.

  1. Place Hand Sanitizer Stations

The CDC advises cleaning hands often by washing them with soap and water for 20 seconds. Also, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol. Place hand sanitizer stations in bathrooms, the kitchen, living space, and front door where they will be readily available for movers and your family on moving day.

  1. Leave Doors Open for Movers

When moving during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to avoid touching surfaces that are repeatedly touched by others. You want the movers to touch as little as possible while they are in your new home. Leave your front door and other doors that movers must pass through, you’ll make it easier for them to avoid touching doorknobs and doors.

  1. Wipe Down Cardboard boxes

Before opening your moving boxes, we recommend wiping all cardboard surfaces and plastic bins with disinfectant wipes. This will kill any germs and viral illnesses that happen to be on these surfaces. Once you’ve finished unpacking the boxed, remove all the cardboard from your home as soon as possible and wash your hands thoroughly.
